MEET MISTY CASTANEDA

Say hello to Misty, boss babe, super mom, and founder of For Purpose Kids. We love her mission and everything she does to empower women + their families. So without further ado, here's Misty!

Tell us more about what you do and how you empower the community of women around you.

I'm the Founder at For Purpose Kids, a social good brand inspiring the next generation of global citizens by teaching kindness and doing good as a way of life with our Toolkits, subscription & other fun products.  We help families take an active role in fostering "do good" kindness in their kids, as this is something we need a lot more of in the world.  I envision a future where children learn love and acceptance over hatred and fear, and it carries into their adulthood as they become global citizens. Where we not only embrace our differences, we celebrate them. Where we live in gratitude and focus on sharing with those who have less.
As women, and Mamas, we need to make this a priority and I want to provide the tools to make it simple and fun!

Tell us more about your space/aesthetic?

I love bright, joyful colors in my space and as much I aspire to be a minimalist, I'm definitely a "more is more" person.  I like to have lots of pictures of my family, friends and places I've traveled around me as they provide me with constant inspiration and happiness.  You'll also find a lot of global treasures in my home that I've picked up along the way...something I think my husband wishes I did a little less of!

What is your favorite room in your home?

While I love the open space in our living and kitchen area for our family and friends, there is a corner in my bedroom that I love.  It's where I sit and meditate, journal and try to just "be".  Although it's still not completely set up, it has a favorite painting of mine that I bought in Istanbul, spiritual icons from around the world and books- lots of books.  Although I haven't read all of the books that are there, I aspire to- and that keeps me open to the possibilities that exist in the world.

Who or what inspires you?

So many things...but right now it's the idea that good will prevail. It's so easy to feel overwhelmed and defeated by all of the unkindness that we're seeing in the world, but I refuse to give up and remain silent about things which I know in my heart are not ok.  I want to teach this not only to my son, but to inspire others around me to do the same.

What are you most proud of in the work that you do?

I'm most proud of continuing to show up in the work that I do. I love the ideas that I've nurtured and the products I've created- they truly fill my soul, but it's not always easy.  Putting out work in the world that comes from your heart can be fulfilling when it's accepted, but can also leave one feeling extremely vulnerable when it's not.  Although I've tried to separate my personal feelings from my work, my work is me...and I think there's value in keeping it that way.

One last thing to live by,

"True belonging doesn't require you to change who you are: it requires you to be who you are."  - Brené Brown
