F E A T U R E F R I D A Y
Henrietta is one of our Imani kiddos! She is the daughter to Elizabeth, the Imani Collective cook who runs the food program in our Mtepeni village location.
Henrietta is 10 and loves to LOVE people! We want to introduce you to this beautiful soul today because she truly encompasses the Imani Collective vision + is a world changer.
Over the years, we have seen Henrietta grow into a beautiful young lady as well as overcome many obstacles in her life. She was born with down syndrome and because of this, she has not been able to attend a formal school due to lack of resources in Mombasa, Kenya.
When Imani Collective hired Elizabeth to run our food program, we began to seek out opportunities for Henrietta and how we could help educate and empower this sweet girl. Over the years, we tried a variety of formal programs in Kenya, but it never seemed to be a great fit because she had to be far from family, community and the programs did not cultivate the culture we desired for Henrietta.
Today, she is daily involved in our childcare and our holiday programs, but we have been on the search for something we can bring to her and into her home.
At Imani Collective, our mission is to unleash a woman's greatness through empowerment, opportunity + community. We care about the whole person and we especially care about the next generation. This is why we pour into educational scholarships for our artisans children and a high quality childcare program. We want to see our Imani Kids thrive.
Today, we wanted to feature Henrietta to share the need for a program that we can cater just for her. If you might know of something specifically for special needs, please reach out to us directly. email@example.com
Sweet Henrietta shows us her strength, tenacity and courage daily.
As her community + family, we want to remind her every day that she is capable and we believe in her.
We want to empower and give her a brighter tomorrow.
and we know,
"if a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn"
