F E A T U R E   F R I D A Y

Hi! I am an undergraduate student at The University of Texas at Dallas, studying Marketing. I am interested in all things that have to do with fashion and home decor, and my style in these areas are heavily influenced by vintage trends. I am also passionate about wellness, and taught yoga part-time during my previous three semesters of college.

What drew you to Imani Collective/why did you choose to intern with Imani?

I recently became more aware of brands that make beautiful, unique products, while giving back to the artisans who create those goods. I was especially drawn to Imani Collective, because of their female empowerment initiatives. My own mother is a very strong female character in my life, and both of my parents empowered me and my sisters to dream big. I’d like to do my part to empower women, and interning at Imani Collective has provided me with that opportunity. I equally love Imani Collective’s products, and mission to empower women through economic opportunity.

What is something you have overcome/are overcoming as a woman in this world?

As a woman in this world, I am learning not to sell myself short. I am sometimes overly conscious of every mistake that I make at school and in the workplace, and as a result, I am wary to speak up or go after my goals. Through my experiences in college and as an intern at Imani Collective, I am learning to speak confidently and believe in my own potential.

What is something you’ve done/you’re doing that makes you proud?

Something that I am currently doing which makes me proud, is getting ready to move to Peru for 4 ½ months. I am participating in an exchange program in Lima, and it satisfies me to escape my comfort zone by exploring another culture + learning a new language.

What is your favorite food?

Right now, tacos!

Describe your ideal day:

My ideal day would begin with a quiet morning and cup of coffee. I might take a yoga or barre3 class, and spend the rest of the day with family and friends, preferably at the lake. We’d end the day by eating together around the dinner table, sitting, talking, and listening to music until it gets dark.

What is a quote/mantra you live by?

“I praise you because I am fearfully + wonderfully made”

(Psalm 139:14)
